As many as 52 NSS Volunteers and 6 staff members from Sri Sai Institute of Technology and Science, Rayachoty organized a shramadan camp at  Premalayam Old Age Home at Bandapalli Village, Rayachoty Mandal, Kadapa district.

The volunteers have cleaned the premises, paths, sitting area, playing area, and garden of the old age home, which was established in 2007. The home is located on the Kurnool-Chittoor National Highway No 18.

Mingling with inmates of the home, a serene and green campus, was a memorable experience for the volunteers. The home is being overseen by AV Subbaiah, former teacher par excellence. Subbaiah, who retired as a lecturer in a degree college, is taking care of the Old Age Home, located in a  picturesque locale on the NH 18.

The NSS unit distributed  150 Sugarless Bananas and  80 Maa Cool drinks to the inmates and staff of the home. The NSS team had also had lunch with the inmates on Monday, the first day of the camp.

The seven-day camp gave the students an opportunity to live in a different world and spend time in the precious company of people of advanced age, said NSS officer Karunakar Alluganti.

” Spending time with elderly inmates is an altogether a novel experience to our volunteers which they cannot encounter quite often. Clearing the premises while chatting with the inmates was a mutually beneficial activity. While our students watched the life of the elderly people from close quarters,  their stay at home had also provided the members of old age home with a social break from their loneliness.  This interaction is supposed to help shape the personality of the NSS volunteers,” Karunakar said.

Oldage Home Organizer  AV Subbiah, Officer Karunakar Allugunti, College faculty Muneera Begum, Lakshmi Dattatri, Ramesh, Riyaz, Driver Sekhar also participated in the program.
