NATIONAL

1. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crosses 85 Crore landmark milestone.

3. Income Tax Department’s Big Announcement on Verification of Income Tax Returns : Return of income furnished electronically u/s 142(1), 148, 153A and 153C of Income Tax Act during the period from 07/06/2021 to 30/09/2021 and verified through EVC instead of DSC, shall be deemed to have been furnished and verified as per Rule 12.

4. Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurated high power transmitters at one of the highest Radio Stations in the world at Humbatingla in Kargil Ladakh, 25 Sep. The Minister inaugurated Two – 10kW High Power Transmitters of All India Radio FM radio station and Doordarshan at an altitude of 13 thousand 300 feet from mean sea level at Humbatingla in Batalik of Kargil.

5. Bharat Bandh on September 27:* The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has called for ‘Bharat Bandh’ on September 27 against the Centre’s three contentious farm laws and has appealed to the people of the country to join their nation-wide strike.

6. The Finance Ministry on September 25 announced that it has approved capital expenditure projects in eight states totalling Rs 2,903.80 crore under the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure for 2021-22’ scheme.

Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Sikkim, and Telangana are the states included in this scheme. These states have already received Rs 1,393.83 crore from the Ministry.

7. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed the Popular Front of India (PFI) was involved in violence during an eviction drive in Darrang district which saw police firing on peasants claiming two lives, including a 12-year old boy, and left over 20 injured, and sought the organisation’s ban by the central govt.

8. Karnataka : Cinema halls and auditoriums in Karnataka will be allowed to operate at full capacity from October 1.

9. 10 additional judges sworn in as judges of Karnataka High Court. Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on 25 Sep (Saturday) administered oath to them.

12. Cyclone Gulab: The Odisha government on Saturday put seven districts on high alert as the IMD predicted the formation of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, which may then move towards the southern part of the state and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

15. Tamil Nadu : TN honour-killing: One sentenced to death, capital punishment to one person and life imprisonment to 12 others, including a serving inspector and a retired DSP in a honour-killing case dating back to 2003.

16. The case pertains to the killing of an inter-caste couple from Kuppanatham near Vriddhachalam in the district, by the woman’s family by setting them on fire after unsuccessfully trying to poison them, reportedly in the presence of many villagers.

17. Telangana : The Board of Intermediate Education announced that it will conduct the postponed first year Intermediate exams for 2020-21, from October 25.

18. West Bengal :The Union Ministry of External Affairs has denied West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee permission to participate in the World Peace Conference to be held in Italy in October this year.

DEFENCE

1. Lieutenant General Nav K Khanduri has been appointed as the next chief of the Indian Army’s western command in Chandimandir. The officer is the first from Corps of Army Air Defence to have been appointed at the commander-in-chief rank in the force. He would be replacing Lt Gen RP Singh who is superannuating on October 31.

2. Indian Army will organize “Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav” from 26 to 29 September in Kolkata. This Mahotsav will be observed to mark the golden jubilee of the India-Pak war 1971. The event will be inaugurated by Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, Army Commander, Eastern Command. Various cultural programs including a film screening.

3. Finally, UPSC has published the NDA 2 2021 Notification for women candidates. Girl candidates who are preparing for the NDA 2 2021 can find out more details here. NDA 2 2021 notification and exam dates are published by UPSC.

4. The application will remain open for women candidates from 24.09.2021 to 08.10.2021 (till 6:00 P.M). No application will be accepted beyond the prescribed last date/time, i.e., 08.10.2021(till 6:00 P.M) or through any mode other than the aforesaid online mode. The Examination is scheduled to be held on 14.11.2021. Women candidates are not required to pay fee for their application for this Examination.

1. PM Modi concludes 3-day US visit, departs for India. He addresses 76th session of UN General Assembly in New York on 25 Sep. He warned the global community to be aware of the challenges of terrorism.

2. PM Modi in his first-ever in-person meeting with President Joe Biden raised a number of issues involving the Indian community in America, including access for Indian professionals in the US and speaking about the H-1B visas.

3. PM Narendra Modi to bring home 157 artefacts & antiquities from the US:. 157 artefacts & antiquities were handed over by the United States during Prime Minister Modi’s visit. PM Modi conveyed his deep appreciation for the repatriation of antiquities to India by the United States.

4. India has slammed Islamabad for misusing platforms provided by United Nations to propagate false and malicious propaganda against India. In its right to reply in response to the reference made by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, India’s first secretary at the United Nations, Sneha Dubey said Islamabad has an established history of aiding and abetting the terrorists

1. *Taliban form 11 new rules to curb Afghan media content* : The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has come up with a set of rules to curb scribe organisations from publishing content which is in conflict with the militant group’s agenda.

The Taliban on 25 Sep (Saturday) hanged a dead body from a crane in Herat’s main square in western Afghanistan.
