Andhra Pradesh offers an interesting scenario of changing land relations, particularly given its historical context.
Developments in the last seven years such as the failed experiment of creating a high value and capital-intensive capital region, change in the ruling dispensation, large scale distribution of house sites, continuous alienation of assigned lands and acquisition of lands for public purposes, comprehensive land survey, abolition of Tenancy Act, issuance of pattas for forest lands, non-addressal of land transfer issues in agency areas etc., further complicate the land question in new ways.
Together, these developments set up new challenges and dilemmas for exploring and engaging the land question.
Ravi Kumar, a practicing advocate in the High Court of Telangana, will deliver a lecture on the changing nature of land rights and relations in Andhra Pradesh with special reference to farm labourers ( ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్లో మారుతున్న భూహక్కుల పరిస్థితి: రైతులు, రైతుకూలీలు ఎదుర్కుంటున్న సవాళ్ళు) at 5 pm today.
Ravi had worked in securing land and labor rights for the marginalised people by engaging the government systems as well as people’s organizations. He also worked for around 15 years in the areas of women self-help groups, watershed development activities.
