1. Basavaraj Bommai to be New Karnataka Chief Minister: Bommai is expected to take charge at 3 pm on 28 Jul (Wednesday). He will be the 20th CM of the state.
2. Basavaraj Bommai is an MLA from Haveri district in central Karnataka. The state Home Minister will now succeed the BS Yediyurappa who tearfully announced his resignation.

4. *Why Basavaraj Bommai is choosen….?*
Basavaraj Bommai, joined BJP in 2008, who served two terms as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council early in his career. Bommai, a senior leader from the Lingayat community, is the son of former chief minister S R Bommai from Janata Dal.
Bommai is a Lingayat, the party’s traditional support base. Veerashaiva-Lingayat community, which constitutes 16% of the state’s 68 million population. He is known to maintain a cordial relationship with leaders from all parties.

The Himachal government has denied that the video, which has gone viral, was from the state.
14. Parliament has passed the Marine Aids to Navigation Bill, 2021 with the Rajya Sabha approving it. The Bill seeks to provide a framework for the development, maintenance, and management of aids to navigation in India.
15. Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Ajay Bhatt informed the Parliament on 26 Jul (Monday) that 29 women Army officers, who did not opt for permanent commission in the Indian Army, have been relieved from service in the Army Special Selection Board No 5.

Star wrestler and one of India’s biggest medal hopes at the Tokyo Olympics, on 27 Jul (Tuesday), missed her flight to Tokyo from Frankurt. Phogat, who was training in Hungary with her coach Woller Akos ahead of the Games, were to reach Tokyo on Tuesday night but she was stopped at the Frankfurt Airport before boarding the connecting flight to the Japanese capital. It was said that, Instead of 90 days as per her Schengen visa, it was calculated that she had been in the EU for 91 days after she landed in Frankfurt from Budapest.
Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw felicitated weightlifter Mirabai Chanu who won a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics, and announced a reward of Rs 2 crore and a promotion in her job in the Northeast Frontier Railway. Chanu, hailing from Manipur, was promoted as an Officer on Special Duty (Sports) in the Northeast Frontier Railway in April, 2018.
Turkmenistan has secured its first-ever olympics medal as its weightlifter Polina Guryeva won silver medal in the 59kg weightlifting category in Tokyo olympics.
