ఫ్రొఫెపర్ (డాక్టర్) కె శ్రీనాథ్ రెడ్డి భారతదేశంలో పేరు మోసిన హృద్రోగ నిపుణుడు. ఢిల్లీలోని అఖిలభారత వైద్యశాస్త్రాల సంస్థ (AIIMS)లో ప్రొఫెసర్ గా పనిచేశారు. ప్రజల్లో హృద్రోగ చైతన్యం తీసుకువచ్చేందుకు చాలా కృషి చేశారు.సార్వజనీన ప్రజారోగ్యానికి కట్టుబడిన వైద్యుడు. ఇపుడు పబ్లిక్ హెల్త్ ఫౌండేషన్ అఫ్ ఇండియా (Public Health Foundation of India, Hyderabad) కు అధ్యక్షుడిగా ఉంటున్నారు.
ప్రస్తుతం భారతదేశం సెకండ్ వేవ్ కోవిడ్ లో చిక్కుకుని విలవిల్లాడుతూ ఉంది. సెకండ్ వేవ్ కోవిడ్ ఎలా వచ్చిందో, ఎందుకు వచ్చిందో ఆయన నాలుగంటే నాలుగు ముక్కల్లో చెప్పారు. ఈ వ్యాఖ్యలు ఆయన బిజినెస్ స్టాండర్డ్ కు ఇచ్చిన ఇంటర్వ్యూ నుంచి తీసుకున్నవి. ఈ సంక్షోభం ఎపుడు సమసిపోతుందో ఆయన సింపుల్ సమాధానం చెప్పారు.
“Last year, while there was a fair amount of strain on the health system, the numbers were low when we announced a national lockdown. The country went for a partial unlocking in phases; the public was adhering to Covid protocol advisories, and we restricted travel as well as large gatherings. But by early January, when the daily case and death count came down, we committed the error of believing that the pandemic had ended for us. We believed in a rather attractive theory that we had all acquired herd immunity. People want to hear what they want to hear-economists wanted the country’s growth to revive; small traders wanted to get back to daily life and travel, and politicians wanted to be in election rallies, and so on. The view that we had put the whole thing behind us was widely prevalent and the preparations ceased. We sort of turned our back on the virus whereas the virus did not turn its back on us.”
‘కోవిడ్ నుంచి మనం కోలుకోవడమనేది వైరస్ ప్రవర్తన మీదే కాదు, మన ప్రవర్తన మీద కూడా ఆధారపడి ఉంది. మనమంతా అనసవర తిరుగుళ్లు మానేసి, మాస్కులు చక్కగా ధరించి, గంపుల్లోకి దూరడం మానేస్తే,రెండు మూడు వారాల్లోనే కేసులు తగ్గిపోతాయి. మరొక రెండు వారాల్లో మరణాల సంఖ్య కూడా పడి పోతుంది. వైరస్ అలసి పోవచ్చు, తనదారిని తాను పోతుంది. అయితే మొత్తం కథంతా వైరస్ వదిలేయవద్దు.’ అని ఫ్రొఫెసర్ శ్రీనాధ్ రెడ్డి చెబుతన్నారు.
On Crisis ending
“Well, that does not depend only on how the virus behaves but also on how we behave. If everybody decides not to be a part of any crowd, everybody puts on a mask, everybody stops traveling unnecessarily, then it is possible that in two or three weeks we will see the cases going down. And after another two weeks, the deaths would go down. The virus may get exhausted, but we can’t leave things entirely to that.
