Pedestrians Not Allowed on Biodiversity Flyover, Precaution for Public

Hyderabad: The Bio-Diversity flyover level-2 has been thrown open to Traffic on 04.01.2020 after taking additional safety measures.  GHMC authorities, however, want the public to strictly adhere to the traffic guidelines. They advised the public against walking on the flyover.
The prestigious project mean to ease the traffic in the City’s bustling IT corridor was closed sometime back following two accidents which resulted in the death of three persons. One accident took place when a speeding car careened off the flyover and fell on a woman who was waiting for a city bus leading to her instant death. The safety measures and even the design of the flyover came in for sharp criticism after accidents that took place in November. The public commotion led to the closure of the flyover. Later an expert committee was appointed to study the safety aspects of the flyover. Based on the recommendations of the committee the authorities have strengthened the safety measures and it has been opened to traffic on Saturday.
In view of safety, the public is advised to :
– Follow maximum speed limit restriction (40 kmph)
– follow lane discipline (the left lane is meant for two-wheelers only)
– not to stop on the flyover for selfies or any other avoidable purposes
– not to walk on the flyover
– not to drive in the opposite direction
– maintain a proper distance between other vehicles
– not to ply heavy vehicles on the flyover
CTP has put in place the following measures :
– CCTV based average speed detection system to identify and penalize overspeeding vehicles
– CCTV based helmet usage detection system to identify and penalize without helmet bike riders
– CCTV based system to identify and penalize vehicles not following lane discipline i.e., two-wheelers moving on right lanes and other vehicles moving on left lanes or vehicles changing lanes abruptly
– CCTV based system to identify and penalize heavy vehicles moving on the flyover
– public address system to alert the people stopping/standing/walking on the flyover
The public needs to obey traffic rules and travel safely.
