Hyderabad, October 19: Former Minister & ex-Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir congratulated former Chief Minister of Karnataka M. Veerappa Moily on being conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award.
He was speaking to media persons after the award ceremony at Charminar organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Committee on Tuesday.
Shabbir Ali recalled that the Congress party held a Chintan Baithak in July 2003 wherein a 14-point political charter was adopted. Veerapally Moily headed the AICC Committee on Social Empowerment which conducted a detailed study on the issues concerning the minorities. “I had the privilege of having several rounds of discussion with Veerappa Moily on the minorities’ issues. We briefed that the country’s first minorities’ welfare department was established by the then Congress Government in 1993. He has also explained the advantages of having a dedicated ministry to deal with issues concerning the minorities,” he said.
The Congress leader said it was due to the efforts of Veerappa Moily that the then UPA Government established the Minority Affairs Ministry at the national level in 2006.
Shabbir Al said that Veerappa Moily was the best choice for the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award’ as he was a true follower of the former Prime Minister and still believes in the same ideology.
Earlier, Veerappa Moily has been conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award in a ceremony held at Charminar. AICC Telangana Incharge Manickam Tagore, TPCC President A. Revanth Reddy, AICC Secretary N.S. Bose Raju, former PCC Presidents Uttam Kumar Reddy and V. Hanumantha Rao, Sadbhavana Yatra Committee President G. Niranjan, Dr, J. Geetha Reddy, Madhu Yashki Goud, Vamshichand Reddy, and other senior leaders participated in the program.
Addressing the meeting, Veerappa Moily said that Rajiv Gandhi’s leadership was exemplary for the entire world as he empowered youth and the country with his firm policies. He said Rajiv Gandhi has sacrificed his life to protect the integrity of the country. He said Rajiv Gandhi ensured development, unity, peace, and religious harmony during his regime and introduced several measures like bringing Anti-Defection Law to eradicate corruption and promote moral-based politics.
Later in the day, Shabbir Ali participated in several programs in the city organized on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday celebrations of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). He also participate in the Mega Blood Donation camp organized by Insaan Foundation headed by Congress leader Osman Mohd Khan in Vijayanagar Colony.
Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali appealed to the youth and all healthy individuals to donate their blood to help the Thalassemia patients. He also distributed certificates among the blood donors and praised the organizers for conducting the event on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi. He said hundreds of people, belonging to all religions, donated their blood on Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
