1. Over 89 crore COVID vaccine doses administered across the country so far.

6. Amidst threat of a possible third wave of COVID-19, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) has developed an immunity boosting ‘Bal Raksha Kit’ for children up to the age of 16.

7. Sahitya Akademi is going to organise an all-India poetry festival on 02 Oct at Jain College auditorium to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.

8. What is new scrap policy? The government’s new Vehicle Scrappage Policy has laid down comprehensive guidelines about how old vehicles in the country will be scrapped or discarded. Under this new policy, government and commercial vehicles older than 15 years and private vehicles older than 20 years will be scrapped or destroyed. Ministry of road transport and highways announced the detailed procedure of setting “Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF)” under the “vehicle scrapping policy”. Vehicle Scrapping Policy was launched in August 2021 by PM Modi. Registration of RVSF will be valid for 10 years and can be renewed for 10 more years, at a time.

9. Andhra Pradesh: The State Bank of India has rejected AP govt’s Rs 6,500 crore ‘overdraft’ for implementing the Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) in the state.

10. Delhi:High Court Takes Up Delhi Court Shootout, Issues Notices To Cops, State, Centre
A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh issued notice to Delhi Police, Delhi government, and Centre as well as the Delhi High Court Bar Association and directed that suggestions in the form of an affidavit or a report be filed on the issue of maintaining security at courts.

11. Karnataka: BJP MLA M P Renukacharya and former legislator Jeevaraj Dwaramakki have been appointed as Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s political secretaries.

13. Meghalaya : The first-ever native female Chief Secretary was appointed by Meghalaya Government. Ms Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang, a 1989 batch officer of Indian Administrative Service has taken over as the State Chief Secretary.

14. Punjab: Navjot Singh Sidhu will continue as the Punjab Congress chief and a coordination panel is likely to be set up, which is expected to be consulted before any major decisions by the Punjab govt in future.

1. Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari took over as the Chief of Air Staff from Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria on 30 Sep.

2. RKS Bhadauria superannuated after 42 years of service and was the architect of two mega fighter aircraft deals including 36 Rafales and 83 Mark1A indigenous Tejas jets.

The defence ministry on 29 Sep approved the procurement of military platforms and hardware worth Rs 13,165 crore that included 25 indigenously-developed ALH Mark-III helicopters for the Indian Army to boost its combat capabilities.

4. India’s BHEL to Supply Upgraded Main Guns For Indian Navy Frigates
under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

5. The Defence Ministry has issued an order for the dissolution of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) with effect from October 1 upon which its assets, employees and management would be transferred to seven newly constituted Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). This would mean the end of the OFB, the establishment of which was accepted by the British in 1775.

6. India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat on 29 Sep met US Army Major General Xavier T Brunson, Commanding General, I Corps, and discussed issues of bilateral defence cooperation.

7. The Indian Air Force requested citizens of Delhi-NCR not to dump eatables or garbage in the open as it attracts birds, which might pose a serious threat to their rehearsals for Air Force Day (08 Oct).

8. Indian Army is inviting applications for SSC (Tech) – 58 Men and SSCW (Tech) – 29 Women Course 2021 (191 Vacancy) Course which will commence in April 2022 at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Interested candidates can apply through the official website of the Indian Army, joinindianarmy.nic.in. The last date to apply is October 27, 2021.

9. Indian Army has released the recruitment notification. Applications are invited from unmarried male and unmarried female LAW GRADUATES for grant of Short Service Commission in the Indian Army for Judge Advocate General Branch. ONLINE APPLICATION WILL OPEN ON 29 SEP 2021 AT 1500 HRS AND CLOSE ON 28 OCT 2021 AT 1500 HRS

10. National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2021 has opened the online portal of application at https://upsconline. nic. in/ for this Examination to enable the unmarried women candidates only. The application link will remain open for women candidates till 6 pm on 8.10.2021.

The Examination is scheduled to be held on 14.11.2021. Women applicants are not required to pay fee for their application for this Examination.

 INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. India is likely to send a 3-member team to participate in a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Pakistan next week, ToI has learnt. The Pabbi Anti-terror Exercise 2021 is being held at Pabbi in Pakistan’s Nowshera district from October 3 under the aegis of SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) which seeks to promote counter-terrorism cooperation between SCO member-states.

2. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said. Quad is not an alliance and it is a practical partnership of like-minded democracies and economies coming together to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.

3. India hit out at China on 29 Sep for once again holding it responsible for the eastern Ladakh standoff, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said China continues to deploy a large number of troops and armaments in the border areas and it was in response to Chinese actions that the Indian armed forces had to make appropriate counter deployments.

2. The Balochistan govt has ordered that heads of all govt departments and senior employees should set the ringback tones of their mobile phone numbers to ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ track. The ringback tone is the sound heard by the person who is calling someone.

3. Taliban shut escape routes as citizens desperately flee Afghanistan : Thousands of Afghans trying to escape the misery at home have flocked to their country’s southern border with Pakistan, but their attempts to get across have been stopped by the Taliban.

4. American Space Agency, NASA, is set to send its first spacecraft to study Jupiter’s Trojan (small celestial body or asteroids) Spacecraft will be launched from “Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida” on October 16, 2021. The spacecraft has been named as Lucy. Mission Lucy will go for a 12-year journey after receiving boosts from Earth’s gravity. Mission Lucy will be launched with the objective of investigating the group of rocky bodies that are circling the Sun in two swarms- one preceding Jupiter.

5. World Maritime Day 2021 is being observed across the globe on September 30 in a tribute to the professionalism and sacrifice of the two million seafarers who served the world’s merchant navy fleet even amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic situation. The 2021 theme for the ‘World Maritime Day’ respects the sacrifice made by the navy men: ‘Seafarers at the core of shipping’s future.’

6. Japan’s former Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida wins party vote, to become new Prime Minister. Mr. Kishida replaces outgoing party leader Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who is stepping down after serving only one year since taking office last September.
