Dutch footballer Abdelhak has woken up from a coma after two years, eight months and 19 days. He was a midfielder from Dutch’s Ajax.
According to his brother Abderrahim, the Ajax prodigy woke up and showed signs of life, Aljazeera said quoting Dutch daily De Telegraaf, on Thursday.
The Dutch-Moroccan player, known as Appie among his fans, collapsed during a friendly match between Ajax and Germany’s Werder Bremen on July 8, 2017, in Austria due to a cardiac arrest. He was shifted to a hospital with permanent brain damage.
A BBC report says before that fateful match Nouri had suffered stomach pains and had not slept well. Though the conditions in the Alps were very hot, he played, replacing Hakim Ziyech after half-time. In the 72nd minute, Nouri slowed and moved gently to the ground.
A helicopter was summoned to take him to a hospital in Innsbruck. Later he was shifted to a house specially built for him.
