1. PM Modi chaired an All Party Meet at Parliament House ahead of Monsoon session of Parliament beginning from Today(19 Jul). The Meeting was convened to seek support of political parties to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament.

2. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will take place from 19 July to 13 Aug 2021.

3. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed the landmark of 40 crore doses: According to Health Ministry.

4. The Delhi govt has cancelled the Kanwar Yatra in the national capital. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority, It has issued an order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection. There will be no celebrations, processions, or gathering in the city during the Kanwar Yatra, starting from, 25th of this month. Srawan month will start from 25th Jul.

5. Congress president Sonia Gandhi on 18 Jul (Sunday) appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as Punjab Congress chief.

6. Karnataka lockdown relaxed: Colleges, theatres, cinema halls to open, night curfew eased.

7. Twenty-five people died in house collapses triggered by landslides following the incessant overnight rain in Mumbai.

8. Haryana govt extends lockdown till July 26 with more relaxations. Timings of restaurants, bars, gyms increased; night curfew will remain in force from 11 pm to 5 am.

9. Puducherry govt postpones reopening of schools, colleges following plea from parents.

10. Odisha: The state government has decided to reopen schools for classes 10 and 12, however, it is not mandatory. Those who want to continue with online classes can do so.

12. The Indian Army will close the registration portal of women military police recruitment on 20 July 2021 (Tomorrow). A total of 100 vacancies will be filled in the women military police in soldier general duty post.
Recruitment rallies are planned to be conducted at Ambala, Lucknow, Jabalpur, Belgaum, Pune and Shillong. Candidates will be allotted venue based on their home districts. Candidates who have qualified class 10 board exam with 45% marks in aggregate and are between 17 to 21.5 years of age are eligible for women military police.I

1. Bangladesh Navy approaches GNLU for training programme.:
Gujarat National Law University had signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Navy in May 2020 for conducting short and long duration training programmes.

2. The mortal remains of photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, who was killed in Afghanistan, were brought to Delhi on 18 Jul (Sunday) evening & will be buried at the Jamia Millia Islamia graveyard, university. Danish Siddiqui, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Indian photojournalist who worked with the news agency Reuters, was killed in Kandahar, Afghanistan on 15 Jul (Thursday) night.

WORLD EVENTS

1. The annual five-day Haj pilgrimage began on Sunday in Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities have restricted annual pilgrimage to 60 thousands local residents between the age of 18 & 65.

2. Death toll in flood affected Germany and Belgium rises to 180. In Belgium, the army has been sent to four of the country’s 10 provinces to help with rescue and evacuations. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo declared 20th of July a national day of mourning. European leaders have blamed climate change for the floods, which have also affected Switzerland.

3. Devotees & members of civil society in Bangladesh have demanded the preservation of the historical buildings & places like Vishwavigyan Kendra related with the spiritual guru Sree Thakur Anukulchandra in Pabna.

4. Nepal’s new PM Sher Bahadur Deuba wins vote of confidence in Parliament. He the chief of Nepali Congress secures 165 votes in 275-member House of Representatives.

5. The United Kingdom govt on 18 Jul (Sunday) declared it had hit its target of offering every adult in the country a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of this month ahead of time.

1. The first batch of Indian athletes for the Tokyo Olympics have landed in the Japanese capital. The boxing team, led by the legendary MC Mary Kom, badminton ace PV Sindhu, archers Atanu Das & Deepika Kumari, along with the Men’s & Women’s Indian hockey teams, reached Tokyo.

2. Indian golfers Anirban Lahiri, Udayan Mane, Aditi Ashok to represent the country at Tokyo Olympics.

3. Two South African footballers have become the first competitors to test positive for COVID-19 in the athletes’ village at Tokyo in Japan- five days before the start of the Olympic Games.

4. Indian Grandmasters R Praggnanandhaa & Adhiban Baskaran registered wins in the first game of the two-game mini-match in the second round of the FIDE chess World Cup.
