India recorded the biggest one-day surge in coronavirus positive cases so far. According to the Union Health Ministry, 6,654 positive cases have been reported taking the tally to 125,101 and deaths 3,720. As many as 137 deaths have reported from various states.
Maharashtra is the hardest-hit state in the country, with 44,581 cases and 1,517 deaths.
The authorities said the active cases COVID-19 rose to 69,597 while 51,783 patients have recovered.
Of the 137 deaths, 63 were from Maharashtra while Gujarat’s toll was 29. With 14 deaths each Delhi and UP were in third place. The states which reported COVID-19 deaths are West Bengal (6), Tamil Nadu(4), Rajasthan (2), MP (2), Andhra Pradesh (2), and Haryana (1).
The ministry said around 80 percent of active cases reported till Thursday were in just five states: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh.
Around the same period the US reported 24,104 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,299 related deaths on Friday.
According to Johns Hopkins University which tracks the global coronavirus trends Friday’s figure pushed the national total to 1,601,251 cases and 96,001 fatalities.
