Stating that the situation at its plant at RR Venkatapuram near Vizag was under control the LG Polymers on Friday said the reports of a second gas leak at the plant were false.
A day after the styrene gas leak in which 12 people perished and scores have affected the management of LG Polymers issued a statement.
“All necessary measures such as using added water, etc are being used to keep the temperature under control,” the statement said.
The management, however, urged the authorities to evacuate the residents nearby as a precautionary measure.
“We are working closely with the authorities to contain the damage and ensure the safety and health of the local residents and our employees, “ the management added.
Following the gas leak that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, authorities evacuated people from five villages within a radius of three kilometers.
The accident occurred when the worker were trying to operate the plant after a gap of 40 days due to the corona lockdown. It was reported that the mishandling of the refrigeration led to the spike in the temperature of the styrene storage tank. As the temperature rose, the gas expanded which in turn led to the leakage of hazardous styrene.
Triggering panic among the villagers, some media circled reported the second incident of styrene leakage from the plant yesterday evening. But, now it turned out to be incorrect.
