Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh lost its “only Green district” tag in the state.
The district which so far remained as COVID-19 free reported a corona positive case Wednesday when a 45-year-old woman from Chilakalapalli village tested positive.
The woman hasn’t had any travel history. She has been suffering from a chronic kidney problem and recently went to Visakhapatnam to undergo dialysis at Care Hospital.
The doctors conducted the TruNat test on her and she showed a mild positive. On May 4, her swab samples were collected and sent to Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) set up at Andhra Medical College, and the result was positive.
The officials were perplexed as to how a woman staying in a village in the COVID-19 free district got infected with the virus. A team of health department officials rushed to the village to ascertain if she had any travel history and to know her primary contacts.
The officials reportedly traced 11 persons from her contacts and shifted them to Vizianagaram hospital for screening. On the other side, officials have begun activities to disinfect the village which has a population of 2500.
