ISKCON Chips in to Feed the Poor Stuck in Lockdown

Medchal, Hyderabad March 30: The Medchal branch of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has started feeding the families and workers affected by the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.
ISKCON has set up 20 community kitchens in partnership with the state governments which are presently feeding 2.5 lakh people, on a daily basis.
“The residents in the villages nearby are mostly daily-wage laborers or workers of factories. Following the closure of businesses due to the lockdown announced by the state and central governments, many workers have been rendered jobless and their families are facing challenges.  We also saw many migrants traveling by foot. The ISKCON has decided to help these hapless people and started distributing  300 plates of meals daily through our temple. It also pains our heart to see the police officers working through day and night. So we are feeding them as well with fresh meals as part of our service,” said Yudhistir Govinda Das, Manager of ISKCON Medchal.

“We are trying to enlist the support of other community members and if we get that we would like to scale up distribution of meals to 1000 plates daily in Medchal,” said Yudhistir Govinda Das.
