Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the state government to suspend the municipal commissioner of Adilabad for failing to demolish a commercial complex that is coming up illegally in Adilabad town.
A bench of Chief Justice Raghavendra Chauhan Singh and Justice A Abhishek Reddy said the civic body chief deserved to be suspended for his inaction in demolishing the structure.
The HC issued notices to Telangana government, Municipal administration principal secretary, Municipal administration director, Adilabad collector, and the commissioner.
The bench was hearing a PIL filed by one Gottimukkal Raju of Saroornagar, Hyderabad. The petitioner said a commercial complex was being constructed on the land parcel allotted to Munnuru Kapu sangham for developing a hostel for the students of the community.
According to the petitioner, the land was allotted to the Sangham way back in 1975. Now, the president of the Sangham is constructing a commercial complex which goes against the purpose for which the land had been allocated.
Unhappy with the explanation of the standing counsel for the municipality that officials did not object to the structure as it was the completion of the existing partly completed structure, the CJ asked, ” Are the municipal officials waiting for the structure to be completed?”
The CJ said, “If you come to the conclusion that the structure is illegal, you have to act on it”.
