A nine-year-old mountaineer from Hyderabad is selected for the Bal Shakti Puraskar 2020 under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.
This prestigious national award is given in recognition of exceptional abilities and achievement. City’s Pothuraju Samanyu got this recognition from the sports category.
He will receive the award from Rashtrapati Ramnath Kovid on January 22 in New Delhi. The award carries a cash of Rs 1 lakh, a tablet, a medal, and a certificate.
Samanyu will have the privilege of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 24 and will also attend Republic Parade on January 26.
Samanyu broke the record in April 2018 when he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro of Tanzania. He was the youngest to achieve this feat. Later in December 2018, he trekked Mount Koschiuszk the highest one in Australia. Samanyu is also the youngest mountaineer to reach Mount Everest base camp.
