Telangana Congress senior leader and MLA Turupu Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy wants to become the working president of TPCC.
The Congress in Telangana has been passing through deep crisis ever since the party lost the Assembly election miserably in 2018.
While 12 MLAs joined TRS, others are looking at BJP. Yesterday, party MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy hinted at joining saffron party.
Jaggareddy has frequently been in the news as the one who is mulling switching over to TRS.
Addressing media at Gandhi Bhavan against this backdrop, the Telangana Congress veteran expressed hope to revive the party provided he be given the post of working president of TPCC.
Jaggareddy, who represents Sangareddy Assembly constituency, said he would soon meet the party high-command to present his case before the leadership. This position, he said, would help him work for the strengthening of the party.
Jaggareddy admitted that he did receive a phone call from Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, Congress MLA from Mungode, who is now all set to join the BJP.
Denying the speculation that he would too join BJP along with Rajagopal Reddy, Jaggareddy said they had discussed the political situation in the state, but not about joining the saffron party.
“I am not thinking of quitting Congress and join BJP. I can say no senior leader will quit the party to join either TRS or BJP. Congress has a stronger and wider base among the people. But the leadership in confusion,” he said and added that he would strive to revive the party’s glory if he was appointed the working president of Telangana Congress.
