AICC secretary V Hanumantha favored Kiran Bedi as the next governor of Telangana state.
It has been speculated for quite some time that ESL Narasimhan, the joint governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, would be shifted as he has already set a record of sorts as the occupant of Hyderabad Raj Bhavan.
Talking to media in Gandhi Bhavan, Rao said Kiran Bedi is the right bet for Telangana state.
“It is high time that the centre appointed the new governor of Telangana. The centre should consider the option of transferring Kiran Bedi who is now lieutenant governor of Puducherry,” he said.
“Telangana is known for rampant corruption. The state needs a stubborn governor who can deal with the corruption with an iron heal. Telangana badly needs anti-corruption crusaders like Kiran Bedi as the governor,” Rao said adding that it would be better for the state if Narasimhan is shifted as early as possible.
Rao was critical of party leadership in forcing Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to call off his fast which the latter launched against the merger of CLP with TRS.
He said party leaders used the name of Rahul Gandhi to persuade Bhatti to call off his fast in NIMS.
He said he was not getting an audience with party president Rahul Gandhi. “I want to share my views on the party’s debacle in recent elections with Rahul. But, Rahul has stopped meeting party leaders for quite some time,” he said.
Rao took objection to Rajya Sabha member KVP’s interference in the affairs of the Telangana Congress. What has the soul YSR got to do with Telangana Congress, he asked poking pun at KVP’s presence at the bedside of Bhatti in NIMS.
