Disappointing many aspirants of Huzurnagar Assembly election, T Congress MLA Turpu Jayaprakash Redd @ Jaggareddy said Congress could retain Huzurnagar Assembly constituency only when a member from PCC president Uttamkumar Reddy’s family is fielded.
In an informal chat with media at Gandhi Bhavan today, Reddy, a Congress veteran from Medak district, said at a time when the party is starved funds, Uttam, who has a respectable reputation in the constituency, could mobilize funds or borrow to ensure that the Congress candidate wins the byelection.
Uttam, who won from Huzurnagar Huzurnagar, despite TRS wave across the state, is expected to resign from Assembly following his election from Nalgonda to the Lok Sabha.
According to sources, many senior Congress leaders, who lost in the last year’s Assembly polls, have already started lobbying for the ticket. Made against this background Jaggareddy’s comments assume significance.
Because tension is palpable in the party if it could retain the prestigious seat in the upcoming byelections.
Commenting on the MLC elections held for local bodies constituencies, Jaggareddy said the ruling TRS candidates had won because of their money power. Congress candidates had lost as they were not a match for TRS as far as money is concerned, he added.
“The opposition party has exhausted all its resources in the series of elections. Though financially weak, committed party workers are the real strength of the Congress,” Jaggareddy said.
Talking about Telangana legislative council, he said Congress member T Jeevan Reddy is the ray of hope for the people of Telangana.
” TRS has a strength of 35 in the House. Will they raise peoples’ issues on the floor of the House. Never, Jeevan Reddy alone can have the courage to confront the government by raising the issues,” he said.
He was confident that Congress would win majority members in the elections held for local bodies.
