Senior Telangana Congress leader and Sangareddy MLA Jaggareddy urged AICC president Rahul Gandhi not to press for the resignation at the present juncture.
He also urged the party president to avail the opportunity to revamp the party from top to bottom thoroughly.
In an informal chat with media Thursday at Gandhi Bhavan, the party headquarters, Jaggareddy said the party would suffer heavy losses if Rahul Gandhi resigns.
“Rahul Gandhi’s decision should lead to the revamping of the party. It’s also an opportunity to create conditions for the revival of the party. Leadership should also ensure that nobody is hurt in the process of revamping of the organization,” Reddy opined.
Stating that the Congress cannot survive without Rahul Gandhi’s family, he said, the party would survive only when they are at the helm of affairs.”Rahul Gandhi’s family is not like any other family. It should be treated as an institution like the party,” Reddy said.
From Nehru to Sonia Gandhi, never in the Congress history, had more than one member enjoyed a position in the party, Jaggareddy recalled.
Rahul Gandhi could have become the PM 10 years ago had he really mad after power, Jagga Reddy said and added that they chose dr Manmohan Singh to be Prime Minister of the government.
He recalled how the UPA government launched schemes like MNREGS to improve the livelihood conditions of the poor in the country.
