Forgetting past of two decade long-long bitter rivalry, the Bahujan Samaj Party of Mayawati and the Samajwadi party of Akhilesh Yadav today joined hands to unseat BJP from power.
The two leaders on Saturday announced that their parties would fight the Saffron party in alliance in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. BSP and SP will contest 38 seats each for Lok Sabha. Uttar Pradesh has 80 seats. The alliance has left two seats for smaller parties. Curiously, the parties have decided against fielding their candidates in Rahul’s Amethi and Sonia Gandhi’s Rae Bareli seats.
Addressing the join press conference in Lucknow’s Taj Mahal Hotel Mayawati said the days of sleepless nights for Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amisha had begun.
BSP and SP, which have been on warpath for over two decades buried the hatchet to join hands. But, the Congress, another principal rival of BJP in national politics is ignored while forging the alliance for Uttar Pradesh.
The alliance would rob ‘guru-chela (Modia and Amith Shah) of the sleep, the mercurial Mayawati said. The objective of the alliance, she said, was to defeat authoritarian BJP and decimate its arrogance.
