YSR Congress has demanded the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker to notify the Denduluru assembly seat as vacant in wake of the court convicting the incumbent TDP MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar besides disposing of the disqualification applications of MLAs who defected to TDP.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday Party National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy and Party Leader in Legislative Council Ummareddy Venkateswarlu said, ’the Supreme Court in its ruling has said any member of legislature, Assembly or Parliament, if convicted will be deemed to be a persona non grata with immediate effect and will not be eligible from any of the proceedings of the House.
TDP MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar has been convicted by a court in two cases and it becomes imperative that the Dendaluru assembly seat, which he represents, should be declared vacant forthwith, they said after submitting a memorandum to this effect to the Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao.
Once the judgement of conviction is delivered, the person should vacate the office he is holding forthwith and hence Chintamaneni Prabhakar is not eligible to participate in any of the assembly proceedings and the seat should be declared as vacant, they said.
They have also said in the memorandum that the 22 MLAs who crossed over to TDP should be disqualified and the petitions seeking their disqualification should be disposed of immediately.
