The names of two Telugu chief ministers, Chandrababu Naidu (AP) and K Chandrasekhar Rao (TS), figured among the eleven chief ministers who have criminal cases registered against them, according to a report prepared by Association Democratic Reforms and National Election Watch.
As for as the criminal cases are concerned Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis tops the list with 22 criminal cases, out of which three are serious criminal cases.
Among others Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan has 11 criminal cases against him followed Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal with 10 criminal cases. However, with regard to serious criminal Kejriwal leads the lot with four cases.
ADR and National Election Watch released their latest report which said, “Out of the all 31 Chief Ministers analysed from State Assemblies and Union Territories, 11 (35 percent) Chief Ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves.”
According to the report Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu Telangana Chief Minister K.C. Rao,Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, , Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh have criminal cases registered against them.
However, Chandrababu Naidu, V. Narayanasamy, and Mehbooba Mufti do not have serious criminal cases registered against them.
Assets wise, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu is the wealthiest chief minister with declared assets of Rs. 177 crore.
Arunachal Pradesh’s Pema Khandu is the second richest chief minister followed by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh with assets worth Rs 129 crore and 48 crores respectively.
Tripura’s Manik Sarkar stands out as poorest with assets worth as low as Rs 26 lakh followed by his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee (Rs 30 lakh).
The study was based on the self-sworn affidavits of current chief ministers filed by them prior to contesting elections.
Telugu MPs always took lead
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana always took the lead in the richest MPs in Parliament.Some of the prominent richest MP from Telugu states are YS Jaganmohan Reddy, T Subbarami Reddy, G Vivek, Lagadapati Rajagopal Reddy, Nama Nageswar Rao, Chiranjeevi, Sujana Chowdary, Konda Visweswar Reddy and Butta Renuka.
In 16th Lok Sabha, formed after 2014 Elections, four of the five wealthiest MPs are from Telugu states while the fifth slot went to Madhya Pradesh Congress MP Kamal Nath who declared assets worth Rs 206 crore.
Among the Andhra MPs, Jaydev Galla(above Pic), who won from Guntur Lok Sabha constituency, is the richest with a declared assets of Rs 683.05 cr. The second richest MP is Telangana’s Konda Visweswar Reddy
who represents Chevella LS Constituency. He declared assets worth Rs 528 cr. BJP’s Gokaraju Gangaraju from Narsapuram
Lok Sabha constituency is the third wealthiest MP from Andhra.
YSR Congress MP (now in TDP) from Kurnool Butta Renuka is the fourth richest MP with declared asset worth Rs 242 cr.
