VH Urges Amit Shah to Appoint Kiran Bedi as TS Governor

(Prashanth Reddy)

AICC secretary and former Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao urged union home minister Amit Shah to appoint Kiran Bedi as the governor of Telangana state.

Kiran Bedi is the lieutenant governor of union territory Puducherry. Still, Rao wants her to be shifted to Telangana. For quite the Congress veteran has been on a campaign of sorts to get her posted in Hyderabad Raj Bhavan.

Writing a letter to the union home minister Hanumantha Rao also requested the immediate transfer of incumbent governor ESL Narasimhan, who is now joint governor of two Telugu states Telangana and AP.

Dubbing Narasimhan as the chief ministers’ governor, the Congress leader alleged that Narasimhan had failed in impartially discharging his duties as governor of Telangana.

Citing the recent spate of suicides by 26 students of Telangana following marks bungling by the Board of Intermediate Education, Rao said Narasimhan had not acted on the representations of opposition leaders.

He also brought the inaction of governor   in the face of Hajipur killings, and removal of a statue of Ambedkar from Pujagutta juction by the GHMC authorities to  Shah’s notice.

He said it was high time that two Telugu states had two separate governors so that they could concentrate on their respective states.

Against this backdrop, Rao opined that a state like Telangana needs a person like Kiran Bedi as the governor, who could listen to the people irrespective of the political affiliations.

” As long as the present governor continues, representations by opposition leaders do not get proper attention. He (ESL Narasimhan) is always in favor of chief ministers,” he said in the letter.

During the previous tenure of the NDA government, all governor had been changed except the governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,  Rao recalled in the letter.

He requested Amit Shah to appoint a full-time governor to the state of Telangana.

ESL Narasimhan has been appointed by the UPA government and he also served as the governor for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during NDA regime.

It may be recalled that V Hanumantha Rao lambasted the governor several times and demanded the centre to replace him. Earlier, he took objection to have a common governor for both the Telugu speaking states and also claimed that no action was taken by the governor despite submitting several representations.
