Telangana to Have 10 Times Bigger Secretariat

Designs for a massive Telangana secretariat, 10 times bigger than the existing one, are getting ready. The new secretariat, which replaces the existing one near Hussainsagar, will  have 10 lakh sft built-up space to accommodate all offices of secretaries and heads of the departments.

According to a report TOI, the new secretariat is expected to cost tentatively Rs 400 crore.

The designs are being prepared by a Mumbai based architect and they will be presented to chief minister K Chadrasekhar Rao in a week or two.

After studying various options to locate the new secretariat such as Chest Hospital, Bison Polo Grounds and Telangana secretariat block, the government finally has settled for space at Andhra Pradesh portion of the  Secretariat.

Though KCR favored Bison Polo Grounds for erecting the new secretariat, he had to shelve the plan following opposition from political parties, environmentalists and other social groups.

Now, with the AP government led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy agreeing to give back the buildings, lying unused for over four years, the chief minister seems to have given green signal for constructing the new seat of government at the same place.

According to the report, only 20 percent of the area of 25 acres will be utilized for construction and rest will go for the parking lot conference halls, etc.

Vacating and dismantling of the existing structure would be completed in four months. The process is expected to be expedited after the inauguration of Kaleswaram Project on June 21, 2019.

Chief minister KCR is expected to hold a meeting on June 26 or 27 to finalize the date for laying the foundation stone for the new complex.
