The death toll due to COVID in Telangana has crossed 50 raising concerns among the public and officials alike. And the state is inching towards 2000 mark in the number of positive cases.
On Sunday alone 4 patients who were suffering from COVID-19 died taking the tally to 53. On the other side, the number of coronavirus positive cases also continued to rise with 41 more people testing positive on Sunday.
Curiously, the districts that remained almost corona-free till now are witnessing a surge in the number of positive cases. So far, Telangana outside GHMC limits have been relatively COVID-free.
Now, Yadadrai-Bhongir, Jagityal and Macheriyal districts have emerged hotbeds of coronavirus in the past 20 days.
Of the 137 positive cases, that have been reported from among the migrants till Saturday, the share of these three districts is whopping 97 cases.
The fact that thousands of migrant laborers who returned home in Nalgonda, Sircilla, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Mahabubabad, Nirmal, Karimnagar has become a matter serious concern among the district officials. Because the majority of them came back from neighboring Maharashtra and the state has become a big worry now.
Even though Telangana migrants are returning from various states such as MP, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Odisha, only those coming from Maharashtra are testing positive in large numbers.

The reporting of coronavirus cases from among the migrants of all sorts has become a source discomfiture as the COVID is all set to enter the rural hinterland, which has been so far considered a safe haven.
According to the officials, as many as 2,300 workers returned to Yadadri-Bhongir district from Mumbai’s Dharavi, which is said to the largest slum in Asia. The Dharavi area reported 27 positive cases on Sunday taking the tally of the area to 1541.
The district, which had zero positive cases, with 37 cases is now a bright spot on the corona map of Telangana. All these cases are from Atmakuru, Narayanapur, Valligond, etc. Jagityal, which received about 5,200 migrants from Mumbai has reported 30 positive cases.
As for Macheriyal, which had only one case so far, now reported 28 cases and migrants’ contribution is 27. According to officials, about 2500 migrant workers, belonging to Hajipur, Jannaram, Luxettipet, Dandepalli mandals arrived from Maharashtra. On Friday the district has reported six positive cases. Now, authorities have launched a door to door survey to register workers who returned from Maharashtra. The majority of these workers were from Dharavi, Bandra, and Vile Parle of Mumbai.
